Shaheed Diwas: Honouring the Ultimate Sacrifice of Bhagat Singh, Rajguru, and Sukhdev

Shaheed Diwas, also known as Martyr’s Day, is observed on March 23 every year to commemorate the sacrifice of three iconic freedom fighters: Bhagat Singh, Shivaram Rajguru, and Sukhdev Thapar. These young revolutionaries were hanged by the British colonial government in 1931 for their involvement in the assassination of British police officer John Saunders, who was mistakenly identified as James Scott, the officer responsible for the brutal lathi charge on Lala Lajpat Rai.

Bhagat Singh, Rajguru, and Sukhdev were members of the Hindustan Socialist Republican Association (HSRA), a revolutionary organization that sought to overthrow British rule through direct action and armed resistance.
