Janmashtami is the day that celebrates the birth of Lord Krishna, one of Hinduism’s most beloved deities, this year falling on August 16, 2025. Krishna is the eighth avatar of Vishnu. Krishna was a great friend, a good philosopher, mischief-maker and a lover whose stories still continue to enchant generations and was not just a divine hero.

Lord Krishna was born at the place known as Mathura to parents Devaki and Vasudeva in a prison, under the rule of the tyrant King Kansa. On the night of his birth something miraculous happened, the chains broke, prison gates opened themselves and Krishna was carried Vasudeva as newborn across the flooded Yamuna to Gokul from the dungeons where he was born, he was raised by the parents Yashoda and Nandain Gokul.
