From a Young Dreamer to a Brave Soldier

Born on 9 September 1974 in Palampur, Himachal Pradesh, Vikram Batra grew up with a strong sense of patriotism and a desire to serve the nation. He joined the Indian Military Academy and was commissioned into the Indian Army in 1997.

He became an officer of the 13 Jammu and Kashmir Rifles and soon proved himself to be a courageous and inspiring leader.

The Hero of Kargil

During the Kargil War of 1999, Captain Batra played a crucial role in some of the most difficult operations.

He led his troops during the capture of Point 5140, a strategically important position. His fearless leadership and famous words, “Yeh Dil Maange More,” became associated with his determination and spirit.

He later took part in the operation to capture Point 4875, one of the challenging peaks in the Kargil sector. Despite facing intense enemy fire and extremely difficult terrain, Captain Batra continued to lead from the front.

The Ultimate Sacrifice

On 7 July 1999, while leading his men during the battle for Point 4875, Captain Batra displayed exceptional courage. He put the safety of his fellow soldiers before his own and made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.

His bravery and leadership were recognised with India’s highest wartime gallantry award, the Param Vir Chakra, awarded posthumously.

A Legacy That Lives On

Captain Vikram Batra’s life was short, but his impact has been immense. He demonstrated that true leadership means standing with your team, facing challenges with courage and putting duty above personal safety.
